Police in Washington continue to investigate the carjacking of a tractor-trailer that occurred Friday afternoon on Interstate 5 in Olympia.
Reports in the media say a pedestrian carjacked the rig, struck several other vehicles and rolled it. The suspect then refused to exit the crashed vehicle. I-5 was closed in both directions during the standoff, which eventually ended at about 4 p.m.
KIRO-TV reports, “Just before 4 p.m., troopers used a tool to rip the windshield off the truck, exposing the cab. After they launched what appeared to be tear gas, the suspect was taken down.”
On Friday evening, the State Patrol said in a news release that the agency was involved in a shooting at the location but offered few other details.
KING 5 reports aerial footage showed a man climbing out of the cab of the truck and running at police before falling to the ground. He was taken away by ambulance. No further information has been released including whether the person was shot by police and their condition.
A northbound lane of I-5 had reopened by about 7:30 p.m.
